Pont Newydd Medical Centre,Aber-Rhondda Road, Porth

The site is at the confluence of the two Rhondda rivers and is sandwiched between the backs of properties fronting the main road and a railway line. The footprint of the building reflects not only the shape of the site but also the profile of the new bridge. The “green roof” improves the outlook from the backs of the existing properties and is also visible from the river bridge. Rendered walls enhance the curved sculptural form. Cedar panels add further interest to the elevations. Internally clinical and support facilities are accessed from a day lit double height waiting area.
